Lord Dorchestor Cup 2010
That's right kiddies, we're holding our very own invitational very soon. Here's the invitation: The Carleton University Debating Society is pleased to invite you to the 2010 Lord Dorchester Cup, to be held March 5-7 in Ottawa. The tournament will consist of five rounds of Canadian Parliamentary Debate, breaking to quarters. There will be two public speaking rounds, breaking to finals. Dorchester is the last invitational tournament in Central before Nationals, and is a great opportunity to warm up before everyone is off to Alberta. Debate and Judging We're pleased to have Michael Powell as our Chief Adjudicator. The tournament will be held in Canadian Parliamentary style, with a full style guideline to be posted closer to tournament date. Hybrids will be allowed. A judging requirement of n/2 will be in effect. Tabbing will be done efficiently by Dave Tucker and Emma 'Jungle Cat' Robillard Cole using chutabs. Public Speaking There will be two rounds of public speaking, with the top five breaking to finals. Equity Sheliza Esmail & Andrew Lawrence will be the tournament’s Equity Officers. An equity policy will be up shortly, but in the meantime we encourage everyone to freshen up on the CUSID code of conduct (http://www.cusid.ca/oldsite/documents/official/national/cocbylaw.htm). Food and Socials We'll be providing dinner on Friday, as well as breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. Simon will ensure all meals are nutritious and delicious. Please let us know about any dietary restrictions when registering. Yumi and Dave will ensure fun is had on both Friday and Saturday evenings. Friday night we will have dodge ball, before heading to a nearby pub for a casual social. Saturday night we will be having a house party. While we are finalizing details for the Saturday social at present, we are committed to offer as much cheap alcohol as possible. Accommodations For those that are interested in billeting, please mention it when registering. We'll be offering spaces on a first come, first serve basis. We are going to block-book some rooms at the Capitol Hill Hotel and Suites, which we have used for the past few years. It's in a great location, nearby a lot of the trendy bars on Elgin Street and in the By Ward Market. Also, they have in past years been very lenient of hotel parties. Individual schools will be responsible for reserving and paying for rooms. This information will be up shortly. Capital Hill Hotel & Suites 88 rue Albert Street Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Ph: 1-800-463-7705 or (613) 235-1413 Registration We're committed to running the best possible tournament at the lowest possible registration fee.
