By-Laws of the Carleton University Debating Society
Past Tournament Results By-Law
Monetary Awards By-LawShould a Society-subsidized team win a monetary award exceeding C$500 for its performance at a tournament, the team shall be required to reimburse the Society for transportation expenses incurred to attend said tournament, up to, but not exceeding 50% of the award. Registration and accommodation costs shall remain club subsidized. The remaining value of the award shall be split equally between the two team members. One week prior to the AGM, members of the club are required to confirm their membership to the executive to retain voting rights at the AGM. Two weeks prior to the AGM, the executive is responsible for informing all club members of this regulation. Equity Committee Bylaw The executive will appoint a three person committee each academic year, chaired by the President, to investigate equity issues in the club. It will report to the AGM and make recommendations as needed. Tournament Fee Bylaw If a debater or judge reneges on participating in a subsidized tournaments within the 92 hours before the start of the tournament, (s)he is responsible for refunding the club the cost of the deposit, and may appeal to the executive’s discretion in case of unique circumstances. The debater will not be eligible for future tournament subsidization consideration until the fee is passed High-cost Tournament Debriefing Bylaw When members are subsidized to attend tournaments of particularly high cost, as deemed by the executive, they shall, individually or as a group: (1) Debrief the club, at a debate meeting or scheduled time, on their experience at said tournament, including but not limited to: (a) round-by-round analysis including opponents, judges, motions, tactics, and reasons for decision (b) the same for all out-rounds, regardless of whether the members were in said rounds (c) any salient differences in tournament organization (d) particularly insightful comments from judges, especially those from a different national debating background (e) what factors contributed to competitive success, or lack thereof (f) increases or decreases over the course of the weekend (g) a holistic summary of the tournament experience (2) In the case of the WUDC, hold one training seminar per semester, at a debate meeting or other scheduled time; in the case of all other tournaments, hold one training seminar during the semester of said tournament, in the appropriate style. Outstanding Debts Bylaw Members of the Society must inform the VP Administration of the value of any outstanding debts no less than 3 days prior to the AGM. Honourary Members
